Hang It High

I'm slightly obsessed with filling my walls with pictures and objects. One of my goals is to fill most of my wall space with things I find beautiful or interesting. I love to display above doorways, over windows, and to hang disparate objects vertically.
I love to hang a series of mixed objects.

Mr. Fox greets kitchen visitors.

A male silhouette accentuates one of the arches in the kitchen.

His partner accentuates the other.

Over the pocket door in the kitchen.

The breakfast room doorway.

Ernest hangs high on the fireplace.

I found this antique picture when I was 18. It was the first picture I bought for my new house.

I collect antique berry bowls to fill the space above my bay window.

A small door under the stairs.

My husband found this pair of storybook lanterns at a great little shop. Later, while spending the weekend in Carmel, we noticed they were almost identical to the lights hanging on all the fairytale buildings around town.

My husband's closet door.

A picture placed behind fabric, at the top of my bed canopy.

A picture hanging above the windows and under the eaves in my daughter's room.

What a great idea, Ann~Marie...hanging the pictures and pieces over your doorways. I have never thought to do that and it's nice that it draws your eyes upward. I really love the berry bowl collection you have hanging! Very nice!

Life is just too short to have all the pictures or pets I want to have. I love things of beauty too and I have a ton of pictures artfully hung like you do..it makes me happy! :D

All of these are very creative and fun. My favorite is the deer head. I wanted something like this to hang on my hood in the kitchen...still searching for just the right thing. Lots of good ideas you shared with us today...thank you!

I love every single one! I felt inspired last night and hung some pictures on my bookcase and thought, "Ann-Marie would approve of this"! Lol! I especially like the painting tucked behind the curtains and just peeking through. You do such a great job of showcasing what you love! :-)

Not many could get by with hanging every single thing they like but you make it work, and beautifully. I once hung the mr and mrs silhouettes on my closet doors. So far, every house I've lived in since has only one big closet. Older homes have such charm. Art just takes on a new life. Love how all of yours looks like it belongs.

I like to hang things over doorways when I can. I don't have the pleasure of those high ceilings so I am limited. Looks so pretty.

My husband teases me for packing so much into every nook and cranny. He says I decorate as if it was still my retail store. Perhaps he is right. When I was paying rent, every square inch had to pay for itself. Being in the business also, perhaps you love to make use of every opportunity to display.

I say go for it. I love it!

I love how you added art in unusual places.

Most of my art is low due to our ceilings. I love the height of your rooms.

Thanks so much for the inspiration, Ann-Marie.

The living room has an 18 foot ceiling. There is a triple (double hung) window on one end. There is sconce centered just above the window. The wall above the sconce looks so empty when viewed from the foyer, I've often wondered if I should hang something above. What do you think of that idea?

Enjoy my visits here so very much. Always find inspiring ideas.

I love all your "unexpected place" hangings! I only have a few things hung in unexpected places, but you've inspired me to go for more. :-)

I love your decorating choices, and sharing the same need to hang paintings and objects over the entire wall is so akin to the way I decorate.
I once had a fireman give my home an inspection, he said if my house caught on fire and I told him to grab something, he wouldn't know where to start ~ lol.
You have a delightful home !

I am a total sucker for gorgeous clocks like yours. I think they're one of the things that really help to make a house a home. Actually, the same goes for all sorts of things on the wall - your collection is lovely!

Ann Marie ~ love all of your lovelies hanging high! We are in the middle of painting our kitchen/family room and I have been eyeing some spots above windows and now think I just may have to hang some plates or something up there! Thanks for your inspiration.
Have a wonderful day.
